圣诞节快乐 tout le monde!

Christmas is about three things: commercialism, christianity and getting together with the ones you love. I hate crowded shopping malls and I hate Jesus even more, but I won't lie, I have the blues, now that I have to spend the first Christmas ever abroad. It would be so nice to just have a large meal with my family, but eh, that's part of being an expat. At least I know people think about me :)

However, I am not curled into fetal position, crying myself to sleep; Christmas spirit is alive and kicking in Chenggong College! Tonight we had the Christmas party with all the foreign staff, well, just a huge dinner as usual (but no booze... it was on campus). There was a potluck part also however, so I could pre-drink while cooking my eggplant & tomato. It's just cool to get together with all your new friends, many of them being in the same far-away situation. I even got (and gave) a few gifts... Tony got me those badass shinguards to protect my lower legs from the wind when riding my motorbike, and Ryan & Julie gave me a pouch of Uncle Ben's spanish rice. Some of my students also gave me some cards and some apples. Yay!

But anyway, as I write this it is now 4 AM, and I'm leaving for Shanghai in a few minutes. I'll let you know how it goes! I just wanted to wish everybody a Joyeux Noel/Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays/Joyeuses Fetes vite fait!
