Tech shit

Chinese students love tech shit.

At first, when I bought my bike for around 4 times the average monthly salary, I felt a little weird and thought that maybe some people would see it as insulting and patronizing. That was until I realized that the vast majority of my students have cell phones worth more than the goddamn car I owned in Canada.

Cells, with their movies, text messaging and games are the number one source of distraction in class and every week I learn or create new ways to deal with it. When I see a cell, I confiscate it. Sometimes, I text random people with it. Sometimes, I have the student to come to the front and tell me why I should give it back (it is also a way to make them speak). Sometimes I just toss it in the garbage. Tough shit.

As my Real estate students were doing an assignment in class, I was walking around, until I saw a digital camera on a student's desk. What the fuck would a student have a digital camera for? I confiscated it immediately and looked at the pics. After passing the cam around a bit, I came back to serious things and told him that if he didn't e-mail me the pictures, he would get a zero on the homework he hadjust submitted. I never saw somebody go from "false beginner" to "native-like" that fast.

The best part is: He actually sent me the pictures!
I think they are worth sharing. Enjoy.
